Not for guns ! I use it to blacken couplings on my 4mm model railway. They are a fairly unobtusive type (etched), but blackening the brass makes them even less visible. Painting doesn't work as the couplings can stick.
I've used Birchwood Casey products in my modelling for a long time, and always had successful results
